We recently stopped by the Fab Ferments Tap Room in Lockland to check out the space, try some kombucha on tap (which is a totally different experience than in the bottle, by the way), and chat with Jordan, one of the duo behind all things Fab Ferments. We took some photos, had some great discussions about kombucha, and sampled some truly delicious creations.
We’ll have more news and information about an all new, exciting venture with Fab Ferments over the next weeks, including a primer on kombucha, and an official announcement about some new spaces inside Jungle Jim’s that are on the horizon.
For now, check out some of our impressions from our visit, take a look at the space, and get ready for some fun and flavorful things happening in the near future!
Having tried Kombucha before (bottled) I was excited for trying a few flavors off the tap. Having a restricted diet and actually "hating" some of the flavors listed I was happily surprised to at least be able to appreciate if not down right like even those flavors. The other surprising lesson from the visit was how drastic the difference between bottled and on tap Kombucha can be. The extra bottle fermentation drastically increases the potency of the flavor (ginger) that we tried side by side. On the other end the on tap Kombucha was smooth, clearer of sediment from brewing and just delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed both and would suggest a side by side taste test if you ever get the chance!
I will say the thought of kombucha itself had me a little weary before visiting Fab Ferments, but I arrived with an open mind ready to try some kombucha for the first time. Jordan was a super awesome dude who was really knowledgeable and passionate about his kombucha. As we went down the line tasting the different flavors on tap I quickly realized, hey this stuff is pretty good! I was actually surprised at some of the flavors that I really liked. The ginger flavors were my favorite, but the one that really stood out to me was Pineapple Cilantro Jalapeno. So if you’re like me and don’t know what to think about kombucha do yourself a favor and dive right in. I will say the stuff on tap is a little easier to get used to before you hit the bottles. Jordan at Fab Ferments is a great person to talk to and learn from if you’re interested in taking the dip into kombucha.
It would be easy to dismiss something like kombucha as a health food thing - I think that's tendency, anyway. Sure, there are plenty of health benefits, but I was personally excited by the prospect of drinking a relatively sugarless but ultimately, shockingly flavorful set of beverages. From the tap, kombucha is an entirely different experience than from the bottle. Less intense, but there's still a lot going on and so much to enjoy. For those who crave soda, or even alcoholic beverages, this is an awesome alternative. That it's actually good for you is just icing on the cake.
Jungle Jim’s International Market is excited to be a part of the next episode of Turning Craft, a new show from the creators of Brew Studs. Featuring local breweries and businesses, Turning Craft attempts to show non-craft beer drinkers what makes craft beer so special (and delicious). We’ll be filming soon, with release to follow shortly after.
If you have a friend or family member who you think would be a good candidate for craft beer conversion, and would make an ideal guest on the show in Cincinnati, let us know on the Brew Studs blog, right here: http://tinyurl.com/ydcd3tn2
Check out the first episode below to see what Turning Craft is all about. And stay tuned for more information about episode 2, coming soon. Cheers!
Our Candy Department is ready for an epic and fun year of great Children’s, Fantasy and Superhero films and all the awesome candy we’ll see hit the shelves! We’re so excited that our Fairfield location is partnering with Springdale 18: Cinema De Lux, and our Eastgate location is partnering with Eastgate Brew and View, to bring you a basket full of Spider-Man: Homecoming-inspired candy goodness and 4 tickets for you, your family and friends to check out the new Marvel/Sony film!
To enter for your chance to win a Spider-Man: Homecoming-inspired candy basket and 4 tickets to see the new film, we’re setting up a display for you to check out and take a photo with! Stop by both Jungle Jim’s Candy Departments to enter. Here’s how:
No purchase necessary, you must be 18 years old or have a parent’s signature and/or permission to enter.
Like the container this delightfully sweet product is packaged in, we’ll keep this one short and sweet! If you’re looking for an all-natural sugar substitute to help sweeten your coffee or tea, bake with or sprinkle over your cereal of choice, Arizona Spice Company has something ready for you to try!
Granulated (more like tiny pellets), honey powder works in place of sugar in just about any way that you would need to use it. Our favorite? Cinnamon toast! Mix together with some of your favorite cinnamon (we like Saigon) as you would sugar, make some toast and spread some Carmargue butter on your toast while it’s still warm and, voila!
Stop by the Honey Table in Fairfield, or the Flying Bees in Eastgate, to grab a jar of this awesome powder, then let us know what you think in the replies!
We hope you’re all having a family and fun-filled long weekend! Jungle Jim’s would like to take a little time to remember the reason for Memorial Day.
This is a day of celebration, honoring, and mourning of all the fine men and women who have lost their lives serving in the United States military. Take a little time out of your day to pay your respects to the fallen, and keep the soldiers currently serving our country in your thoughts.
Stay safe, and enjoy celebrating with your friends and family!
If you stopped by either Jungle Jim's locations on Saturday, April 22 - National Jelly Bean Day - we're sure you saw a spinning wheel and heard cackles of both disgust and delight! The Candy Department excitedly held their first ever Beanboozled Challenge, and boy, oh boy, were there a lot of kids and adults who were ready to step up and try their luck!
We put together a short video highlighting some of the many, many reactions we witnessed throughout the day, as well as some photos that we think captured the fear, joy and amusement of the Beanboozled Challenge.
Thanks to everyone who participated! We hope you had as much fun as we did. We can't wait to do this again!
Comedy In Paradise is at it again! This past Saturday 9 up and coming comedians took to the stage delivering lots of laughs to the crowd at Paradise Pavilion in Eastgate!
We have one more event this month on Saturday April 29 packed with 9 more comedians, drinks, food, and good times!
We would like to thank Tom Schmidlin for hosting, all of the comedians who performed. and of course thank you for coming out and showing support for some really funny people.
Stay tuned, we might have more comedy events coming your way!
Greetings, Earthlings! Earth Day is tomorrow, so we’ve put together a little information that might help you live a “greener” life! But before we get into it,let’s dive into what Earth Day actually is, shall we?
Origins and History
Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970 when thousands of communities, universities, schools and other organizations not only celebrated our planet, but used the day to also bring attention to environmental reform. Over 20 million Americans participated in the first Earth Day, which was originally proposed by Sen. Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin (who was later awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for being the founder of Earth Day by Bill Clinton in 1995).
Over the years Earth Day supported the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency and contributed to the passage of the Clean Air Act, the Water Quality Improvement Act, the Endangered Species Act and several other environmental laws.
While Earth Day was started in the United state,s it has grown into a global holiday. In the year 2000, over 200 million people participated in 141 countries. In more recent times, the focus of Earth Day has shifted to combating global warming. Last year, 120 countries signed the Paris Agreement, a climate protection treaty between United Nations countries. It was the first major step in combating global warming as an entire planet. According to Earth Day Network, more than a billion people across the globe participate in Earth Day Activities.
