In our humble opinion, this semi-soft cheese from Switzerland, made with mustard seeds, makes the best mac and cheese ever. The cheese itself is creamy and buttery, which makes it a perfect melting cheese, but the mustard seeds take this already tasty cheese to a whole new level. One of the most sought after cheeses in the shop, and even within the cheese world, we don't feel like enough people know about it!
There aren’t many reviews online for Emmi Maitre Moutardier, and even the company’s website offers only a few sentences about it. We first noticed this peculiar cheese about 4 years ago, when we purchased it out of our reduced section as we were looking for something a little different to use for homemade macaroni and cheese. Since then, we’ve recommended Emmi Maitre Moutardier for years now, and each time customers come back saying it was the best macaroni and cheese they've ever made. Just melt it down along with a mild cheddar and you're all set.
